Tonight I would like to try something different. Tonight we will focus on flying as a formation and calling contact.
Some initial information here, very basic stuff.
Contact:
Contact is a brevity term to signify visual or "kinetic" acquisition of the enemy.
Contact effectively means: Clear comms I have important follow-on information.
For aircraft operations this can be thought of as "Bandit".
For our purposes I would limit contact to mean ground based enemies.
Calling Contact:
Calling contact is a brevity procedure for communication of the enemy and descriptors of his position. It is important to get a contact call out quickly and concisely.
Contact is formatted in order as Direction, Distance, and Description (the 3 "Ds").
An example of calling contact, "Contact, 270, 5 kilometers, to the north of the tree line, Tank."
Direction: can take three forms, "Combat Clock", cardinal direction, and bearing.
Distance: can be a precise number or an estimation, the initial contact call needs to be quick.
Description: Descriptive information about the contact (Type, Movement status, nearby terrain features, etc.).
