Tonight we will do some "scaffolding" on Thursdays training. The goal will be to practice some more contact calls and to then break into orienting on the element. Orientation based on the element is very important for contact calls. For example three aircraft that are evenly spaced in an orbit around a town will all have different "fronts" this will drastically effect the accuracy of contact calls using "combat clock".
Some additional info:
Front:
Front is defined exactly as you would expect, Front is where you are facing. In combat terms it is determined slightly differently depending on if you are in a vehicle or not.
As and infantryman, Front would be where you are facing. A tank or a helicopter would define front as the direction the hull or nose is facing.
Front can be from the perspective of the individual or of the element/formation/squad/etc..
Element Front:
The front of an Element can be defined by any of three conditions.
Front can be defined by the element leader at any time.
Front is the last direction of travel for the element.
Any contact (think being shot at) with the enemy lasting for more than 3 seconds.
